Social media is now a very common place and is highly used among many people across the world. It is now a place where individuals can brand themselves, market themselves, explore jobs, promote social cause and more.
Your social media usage and etiquette can play a vital role in your college life and professional career. Depending on the content you post or engage in, social media can lead to trouble with the school, future employment, and even the law. Employers sometimes screen candidates' social media pages during the interviewing/hiring process and use it as a hiring factor. Graduate schools may also look at an applicant's social media page during the admissions process.
Remember your social media pages are an extension of who you are as a person, which is also how some employers may see it. Certain languages, views, and behaviors that are deemed inappropriate can affect you both in college and in the work field.
Be mindful of who you follow and what you like. Social media's algorithm will begin sending you things that it feels you like based on your following and you tapping the like/heart button. These algorithms determine how content is filtered, ranked, selected, and remembered to users. This then influences our choices and what we see on social media so its important to protect your integrity, reputation, and mental health. (Guard your mind). Be intentional about who you follow. It's a good idea to follow accounts that align with your career goals, personal goals, and content that will be most beneficial to you!!
Sincerely,
Sherry, your C.L.A.S.S., Inc. Mentor
